Strengthening Livelihoods and Climate Resilience Through Nature-Based Solutions

Greentech Hub connects community livelihood support with practical approaches to climate resilience and environmental conservation.

In Kyamwame village in Mara Region and Longido in Arusha Region, beekeeping initiatives introduced at different times have linked income opportunities with the protection of natural habitats. Honey production gives communities an incentive to conserve forests and vegetation, while bees support pollination across the surrounding landscape. Healthy habitats provide the flowering plants from which bees collect nectar and pollen, and protecting these habitats helps sustain beekeeping livelihoods.

This mutually beneficial relationship between communities and their environment reflects Greentech Hub’s commitment to nature-based approaches that support livelihoods and strengthen resilience to climate change.

In Etaro village in Musoma Rural District, Greentech Hub also supported a community-based organisation engaged in vegetable gardening. A water tank constructed on a raised anthill stores water for garden irrigation. Its elevated position uses the natural terrain to help distribute water to the garden, supporting vegetable production and creating opportunities to improve food security and household income.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate how locally appropriate solutions can connect environmental conservation with everyday livelihood needs. By supporting beekeeping and garden irrigation, Greentech Hub helps communities diversify their income sources and manage natural resources more responsibly, strengthening the foundations for long-term climate resilience.
