A Shared Approach to Healthier Schools

The partnership between Greentech Hub and MSABI connected regional experience, joint planning, and practical support for schools.

Behaviour Change for Health (BC4H) Program brought Greentech Hub, (formally TAEEs), and MSABI together around a shared purpose: helping school communities improve everyday hygiene.

With support from the +1 Global Fund by Roddenberry Foundation (USA), the organisations combined their experience in school water, sanitation and hygiene. The collaboration connected work in Njombe and Iringa with MSABI activities in Morogoro, creating opportunities to coordinate training, share technical knowledge, and learn across locations.

Joint planning supported a programme that included hygiene education, School Health Clubs, sanitation assessments, menstrual health support, and community engagement. District authorities, teachers, and school committees played important roles in implementation.

The reports recorded more than 4,800 schoolchildren reached across the combined work. They also described stronger coordination between the organisations and closer relationships with district authorities as important results of the partnership itself.

Implementation required flexibility. Rural schools were dispersed, travel distances were long, and changing school schedules sometimes delayed activities. Differences in facility condition and teachers’ training needs also required the teams to adapt their support.

The collaboration gave both organisations experience they could draw on in future school programmes. It showed the value of planning together, sharing responsibilities, and connecting technical improvements with the people who use and manage school facilities every day.
