About Us

GreenTech Hub / About Us

01Mission and vision

To accelerate sustainable solutions by promoting green technologies, circular economy practices, climate resilience, sustainable WASH, clean energy, and eco-innovation through community empowerment, research, and partnerships.

A country where communities thrive through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable environmental solutions.

02Our Story

GreenTech Hub was born from the legacy of TAEEs — an organization that, since its founding in 2004, championed environmental engineering, water supply, sanitation, and community development in Tanzania. As environmental challenges evolved, so did we. GreenTech Hub reflects our renewed commitment to innovation, partnerships, and scalable solutions that meet today’s urgent sustainability needs.

03What We Do

We work at the intersection of technology, community, and environment to:

  • Promote green innovations and pilot cutting-edge technologies
  • Strengthen multi-sector partnerships for greater impact
  • Enhance climate resilience in vulnerable communities
  • Build local capacities through training and education
  • Advocate for policies that safeguard natural resources and promote sustainability

Our Thematic Areas

Climate-Resilient WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene)

GreenTech Hub designs and implements integrated WASH systems that go beyond infrastructure to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience. Our work focuses on schools and underserved communities, combining safe water supply, improved sanitation facilities, and hygiene behaviour change interventions. We actively promote menstrual hygiene management to keep girls in school and support community governance structures to manage WASH services effectively. By linking WASH with climate resilience, we ensure that water systems and sanitation services remain functional even under environmental stress, leading to improved public health, reduced vulnerabilities, and stronger community systems.

Climate Resilience & Adaptation

Our climate resilience work focuses on enabling communities to anticipate and respond to climate variability through practical, locally appropriate strategies. We support climate-smart agriculture, water conservation, and ecosystem restoration while facilitating participatory climate adaptation planning. By protecting watersheds and strengthening natural resource management, we help communities reduce exposure to climate shocks. Our approach builds both environmental sustainability and institutional capacity, ensuring communities are not only informed about climate risks but are equipped to act on them effectively.

Environmental Innovation & Applied Green Solutions

GreenTech Hub bridges the gap between innovation and real-world application by promoting eco-engineering solutions that are affordable, scalable, and context-specific. Our work includes piloting green technologies, improving water and sanitation systems, and integrating renewable energy into community services. We emphasize solutions that communities can adopt and maintain independently, ensuring long-term impact. Through applied innovation, we enhance service efficiency, reduce environmental pressure, and create pathways for sustainable development driven by local capacity.

Circular Economy & Waste-to-Value Initiatives

Our circular economy initiatives focus on shifting communities from waste disposal to resource recovery. We support waste collection, sorting, recycling, and composting systems that are locally managed and economically viable. By promoting waste-to-value enterprises, we create income opportunities while improving environmental cleanliness. Our approach combines technical support with behaviour change, ensuring communities actively participate in reducing waste and sustaining clean environments. This results in reduced pollution, stronger local economies, and more resilient urban and rural systems.

Capacity Building & Institutional Strengthening

GreenTech Hub invests in people and systems to ensure that development interventions are owned, managed, and sustained locally. We provide targeted training, technical mentoring, and institutional support to community groups, schools, and government actors. Our programs strengthen governance structures, improve service delivery, and enhance technical competencies across sectors. By combining practical training with continuous learning, we enable communities and institutions to take leadership in managing their own development processes effectively and sustainably.

Gender Equality & Social Inclusion (GESI)

Inclusion is not treated as an add-on; it is embedded across all our interventions. GreenTech Hub actively promotes the participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups in decision-making, leadership, and service delivery. We implement targeted initiatives such as menstrual hygiene support, women’s leadership in WASH and climate governance, and safe spaces for inclusive engagement. Our gender-responsive approach ensures that development benefits are equitably distributed, leading to stronger community ownership, reduced inequalities, and more sustainable outcomes.
