Blending Community Livelihoods with Climate Resilience
Greentech Hub, formerly the Tanzania Association of Environmental Engineers (TAEEs), supports community initiatives that create income opportunities, conserve the environment, and strengthen resilience to climate change. Through its partnership with Mkomboe, the organisation supports communities in Kyamwame and Nyamunga villages in Rorya District and Etaro village in Musoma Rural District.
The partnership began with a poultry farming project that helped a community group generate income through egg production. It later expanded to include fish farming as part of the blue economy initiatives, vegetable gardening, and beekeeping, giving households more ways to earn a living and meet their food needs.
Beekeeping connects these livelihood efforts directly with forest conservation. Beehives placed within the village’s natural forest provide opportunities for honey production while encouraging communities to protect the surrounding habitat. By linking income to a healthy forest, the project creates an incentive to conserve trees and biodiversity. This approach reflects Greentech Hub’s commitment to nature-based solutions that support both people and the environment.
Together, these locally managed activities aim to improve food security, diversify household incomes, and encourage the responsible use of natural resources. Through phased support and ongoing project oversight, Greentech Hub and Mkomboe seek to build lasting community benefits and strengthen the natural systems on which rural livelihoods depend.
